Let Ardie be Ardie, not an 8, back at 7. Let Taylor be skip, Jordie/Scott as VC. With the injury woes hampering Razor’s selection for locks, Scott should stick at locks, with Finau as main 6 and have Jacobson/Iose as utility 6/8. DMac & BB as 10, Shooter & Love/Nanai-Seturo as 15.

Gives me pause to remember many Kiwis have a profound knowledge of the game that isn’t well represented by some of the partisan views in the comments section here on UA-cam. I was interested to hear Leon MacDonald say around 80% of the team had already been pencilled in before the final. Makes me think we have the cattle for the gameplan they are working towards. Certainly that loose forward makeup will give an inkling of what that gameplan may be. I’ve not been too disappointed in any of our ABs captains, so will be happy with whoever they pick there. Not much was said about the differences between the two semi final games. I know which one was my preference to watch, and which looked most like the traditional DNA of the ABs.

TBH New Zealand ‘ s players warming the bench throughout the IPL and on top of that not playing warm up games where your whole squad except Boult , Rachin , Mitchell have only played consistently for the last three months like Simon said your players have no game time + your are the team playing your first game in the last like zero prep and your first games are against the big dogs of your group. The writing was on the wall. People criticized Boult since three months and he and two others only played.

All due respect to Blackadder but I don't think he's in the picture right now alongside these other guys who have been there right through the season and are really performing. He's only returned from injury and is only a 10 game AB and definitely doesn't walk on water, let him work his way in over these guys; Finau, Sotutu, Jacobson, Papaali'i, Savea.

Why are the ABs picking a squad of only 32? For RWC23 the allowable squad size was 33 while England are travelling with 36. Is the 32 a monetary reason? Is it a self imposed reason? Will RWC27 still be 33? If so, then why not pick 33 players this time? Taking that further, why don’t the ABs match the travelling teams squad size & pick 36 players? Do the ABs have a ‘wider training squad’, training alongside or even training with the ‘Squad of 32’ meaning that the ‘Squad of 32’ is only that in name meaning that if there are any injuries to any of the original 32 than 1 from the ‘wider training squad’ can jump in immediately without any/much of a learning curve? Having such a ‘wider training squad' would also increase depth by exposing/allowing both fringe players & apprentices to learn/grow more. It wouldn't be a cost to the NZR but rather an investment for the future...

Given that Refs only like to hear from the Captains, perhaps it could be a good idea to have Co-Captains that include both a forward & a back which would allow the Co-Captain closer to where the Ref blew his whistle to get in the Refs ear asap (if required). With regards to the ABs Captaincy with the obvious traits being the first name on the Team Sheet, a player that the rest of the team would follow into battle etc, as Razor recently explained the reasons for not picking Crocket for the SR Final in Wyatt's last SR campaign, the ABs Captain should be someone that deals with Refs well & that that the Ref would listen to. The Captain should also know when/how to speak to speak to the Ref and/or to get in his ear (in a nice way). It’s a bit radical/extreme but do you pick your Captain based on the Ref/TMO combination? ie. Not an Owen Farrell type character... 🤣 Better still, take the Ref & TMO out of the equation by not offending - easier said than done especially when not done intentionally.

The loose forwards seem to pick themselves but some combinations do not suggest the size required to combat the really large forward packs that the boks and England and France possess. They might not be the best players but do need muscle. That is how the blacks have been strangled in the recent past

Ardie is a 7. He was pushed to 8 to accommodate Sam Cane. Who Fozzie fell in love with for some reason. Hoskins is the best number 8 since Zinny. Samapini Finau is terrifying inside backs. Gives you 3 line out options. Set plays off line out out are crucial right now. Hoskins gives you an extra playmaker in the forwards and Finau and Ardie will tackle all day plus some. Sittiti one for the future. Not ready after just a few great games. Needs another season of consistency. Blackadder hasn’t managed more than 3 games in a row.

Canes didn't have the best game; that was partly due to the pressure the Chiefs were able to put on our leaders. We didn't adapt to what was happening. The Chiefs out thought us and executed well. As Bryn said, it came down to moments. The Chiefs won those small moments, when the game was on the edge. Good effort and good luck for the finals Chiefs. If the Chiefs forward pack can back up again - it will be a huge 3 games in a row. The ice baths are on me!

The sad thing is NZC has forced ourselves into a hard reset and rebound which means we’re are in for more rough times instead of really putting faith and effort into developing a larger younger squad. So when these greats retire they won’t be able to guide these young guys in.
